Gippsland Pride Initiative 2019 – Community Forum
Wednesday May 15th 2019, 5.30 PM – 8.00 PM
Fountain Room, West Gippsland Arts Centre, Warragul
In partnership with Pride Cup Australia, we will host an all-inclusive Community Forum to coincide with International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia 2019 (IDAHOBIT).
The messaging is simple: we want to learn together and help make our community, sporting clubs and businesses more inclusive. We believe that change has to begin with understanding.
The power of Pride Cup Australia and Proud to Play comes through their respective education based efforts and programs, which have the ability to breakdown barriers, confusion and fear, smash stereotypes and change hearts and minds. Using personal storytelling and real life scenarios, the education provided in these forums teach us how to identify and challenge homophobic and transphobic language or behaviour, help players, staff, members, coaches and officials to become champions for inclusion.
Participants who have undergone this training with Pride Cup Australia report feeling more confident to intervene when overhearing homophobic language and are better equipped to make their club safer and more welcoming.
We expect to engage leading Gippsland businesses and the local business industry groups into the scope of this event to ensure businesses and community groups alike, receive practical and simple learning and resources to benefit them directly.
